Take, for example, the small town of Ruffy, where a bushfire has ravaged nearly 36,000 hectares, leaving at least ten homes in ruins.
"It's devastating," said George Noye, captain of the Ruffy CFA. "The town has been severely affected. We've lost a school, and some families have lost everything."
Unfortunately, the crisis isn't over yet. Another fire near Walwa, in northeast Victoria, has burned through over 17,000 hectares. And with temperatures expected to reach a scorching 46°C in some areas of South Australia, the situation remains critical.
