The Auditions That Sparked a 'Heated Rivalry': Stars Recall Chemistry and Intensity
The new hockey series, Heated Rivalry, is igniting the sport with its captivating story and talented cast. Creator Jacob Tierney reveals the behind-the-scenes chemistry that sparked a heated rivalry even before the cameras started rolling.
During the audition process, Tierney discovered an instant connection between Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, who play Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander, respectively. Williams shared a bold statement that left a lasting impression: 'Connor felt like he was going to pin me down and f*ck me.'
Storrie, recalling the moment, described the experience as 'quite instantly' when he met Williams. He added, 'Jacob actually texted me directly and was like, 'What do you think?' And I was like, 'Yeah, Hudson, for sure. Instantly.''
Williams emphasized the unique chemistry he felt with Storrie, stating, 'I read with one other possible Ilya, and it was good. But something about Connor... There was an inexplicable X-factor that just felt realer than what I thought it could possibly be.'
Tierney, impressed by the actors' chemistry, recalled Williams' bold statement, 'Hudson told me, 'The other guy was good, but Connor felt like he was going to pin me down and f*ck me.' ... That is literally what he said. And I was like, 'Well, I think I cast this right.''
The show's success relies on the dynamic between these two leading actors. Tierney explained, 'They were essentially cast at the same time. It was very clear to us that we needed to find Shane and Ilya together. This show lives and dies with them, so we needed to make sure that this worked together.'
As new episodes air every Friday on Crave in Canada and HBO Max in the US, Heated Rivalry explores the secret romance between two rival hockey players, blending sports drama with a complex love story. The series, created by Tierney and Brendan Brady, is an adaptation of author Rachel Reid's novels, featuring a talented ensemble cast including François Arnaud, Robbie GK, Sophie Nélisse, Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, Dylan Walsh, and Christina Chang.
