Weiss's journey to this role is nothing short of impressive. Hired as the Eagles' video coach on August 7, 2024, she quickly proved her worth. Last season, the team amassed 94 points (43-21-5-3), tying for third in the league, and reached the Pacific Division Final. This season, they're currently second in the division with 48 points (22-8-1-3), just two points behind the Ontario Reign (Los Angeles Kings' affiliate), despite playing three fewer games. And this is the part most people miss: Weiss's impact extends far beyond the stats.
A Potomac, Maryland native, Weiss has been deeply involved with the Avalanche organization, serving as a guest coach in 2023-24 and contributing to their development camp for four consecutive seasons. Her playing career at Trinity College (2007-11) was equally remarkable. As a forward, she captained the team in her junior and senior years, earning first-team All-American honors and NESCAC Player of the Year in 2010-11. She led Trinity to their first NCAA Tournament bid and remains the program's all-time leading scorer with 108 points (62 goals, 46 assists).
Before joining the Avalanche, Weiss honed her coaching skills as an assistant for the Trinity College men's hockey team in 2023-24, helping them reach the NCAA Division III runner-up position. She also coached the Maryland Black Bears (NAHL) and the Washington Pride girls' AAA hockey program.
