WhatsApp's NEW Features! Missed Call Messages, AI Image Creation & More! (2026)

WhatsApp Rolls Out Messaging Upgrades and AI Enhancements Ahead of the Holidays

WhatsApp has unveiled a suite of new features designed to enhance how you connect, including missed-call notes, emoji reactions during group voice chats, smarter in-stream AI image creation, and more. These updates aim to make your conversations smoother and more expressive as the festive season approaches.

Missed-call notes introduce a new way to follow up when someone you’ve called doesn’t answer. Depending on the call type, you can leave either a voice message or a video note to let the other person know you tried to reach them. In a nod to efficiency, video notes are positioned as a potential replacement for traditional voicemails, though user enthusiasm for video notes may vary.

Additionally, you’ll now be able to drop emoji reactions while participating in group voice chats. WhatsApp explains that voice chats let you switch between messaging and live talking without flooding the group with alerts. The new reaction feature lets you quickly respond with a simple gesture like a thumbs-up or a smile without interrupting the speaker, offering a lightweight way to engage.

In group video chats, WhatsApp will also highlight the current speaker, making it easier to follow who is talking in the thread of discussion.

On the AI front, the app is expanding in-stream AI image generation through new partnerships with Meta-backed tools from Midjourney and Flux. Users can expect noticeable improvements when crafting holiday greetings for chats or Status updates, thanks to these enhanced AI capabilities.

Meta’s AI tools will also power image animation features within WhatsApp, enabling you to animate photos into short videos to add a playful touch to conversations or Status posts. Animations can be created directly using a prompt in the Meta AI chat within the app.

Whip-smart media management is also on the way, with a new desktop media tab and refreshed link previews designed to keep chats flowing more smoothly by streamlining long URLs.

Additional updates include new stickers for WhatsApp Status (the app’s Stories-style feature) and the introduction of questions in Channels to help managers spark more discussion and engagement.

With these updates rolling out, there are plenty of tools to lighten and enrich your holiday chats.
